Honey is Sweet

Photos, text entry one back - 2008-07-04

I'm grateful for: three new chicks; apple juice; being a wee bit less insane.

These are mostly store-bought chicks, the larger brown one on the bottom is Ethel who acted as mom to them. I'll call it 'feeding frenzy' maybe.
Chick's feeding frenzy

This is our oldest rooster, Felix. He's been through a lot, most recently lice that required he be isolated from the flock for most of a month. He had no problem putting the second rooster ('Randolph') back in his place on rejoining the flock. *grin*
Felix

The larger of our two 'home-grown' chicks. We strongly suspect this is a rooster, and very likely competition for Randolph, if not Felix
White rooster?

Leslie, the one who's name I couldn't remember before, our first home-grown chicken, in other words, the first egg one of our hens hatched and the chick survived:

In the following photo, the white head on the right is the hen who adopted the two youngest chicks after her sister hatched them. It's pretty obvious the chicks' eggs were laid by two different mothers.

We let each of the kids choose a chick to be 'theirs.' This is S2's chick:

Is that enough? I think that's enough photos for one entry. More tomorrow, hopefully.

I'm listening to Don McLean: American Pie
