Honey is Sweet

Life During Wartime - 2008-12-22

I'm grateful for: Hebrew practice; a new handicapped parking tag; home made chocolate chip cookies.

Isn't it funny? I forgot to mention. The rockets have really heated up today. We heard a 'tzeva adom' (colour red, it's what they call the 'Red Dawn' warning system), and I went over it with the kids, what they are supposed to do in case of a serious warning. I suggested (and will have to follow through with) having a missile drill or two - like a fire drill. We want to make sure that the kids can get under the house and find what they need in the fifteen seconds max warning we get.

We continue to be very lucky here. People who live here say we are protected by the Baba Sali*, which might or might not be true, but it is true that this community continues to enjoy unprecedented good fortune during the missile strikes.

Still, it's best to be prepared.

* The Baba Sali was the chief rabbi of Morocco, a very holy man by all reports, who was responsible for bringing everyone here (Moroccans on this moshav) along with many, many others, to Israel after the foundation of the state.

I'm listening to Chick Webb and his Orchestra: Undecided - featuring Ella FitzGerald.
