When my kids were little, before there was a vaccine for chickenpox, a pediatrician (Lendon Smith, M.D.) wrote that you might as well send kids to school when they have chickenpox. If they didn't actually feel sick (and, mostly, they don't), they can participate in school activities and share their chickenpox. Eventually the whole class would be immune. *** I'm not advocating one way or the other, but it makes a certain amount of sense. They kept me out of school, sixty-five years ago, but my siblings caught it. The six-month-old had three spots, but she was immune.
