Honey is Sweet

And a nice chat with Jessica - 2007-02-21

I'm grateful for: wanting to live according to Hashem's will rather than wanting the perfect stuff; a little discretionary spending money; things accomplished.

I'm really too tired to type much tonight. I got maybe 7.5 hours sleep last night - which is very good for lately. Havva made it to her driving lesson. We left the house late, but it was okay. Picked up Havva, drove to Be'er Sheva. She went to the misrad rishui and got her stamp, Simcha, Eliyahu and I shopped around at kenyone haNegev. We found some face paint and a feather boa for Purim costumes, and I picked up a collection of dot-to-dot puzzles, which Eliyahu loves. Must find some kind of paperwork he is willing to do.

We stopped to pick up a fruit drink - too tired to describe, it's something standard at kenyonim (malls) here. Yummy and mostly good for you. That's where Havva and John found us, and they got iced coffee and some chocolate ice cream. Not in that order.

We headed out of Be'er Sheva, deciding to take kvish (highway) 60 to Jerusalem. It's a beautiful road, but goes by Hevron (Hebron) and through some not-very-savoury places. The road was just about empty, which was scary once or twice when there was a complete lack of signs and we worried if we'd lost the way. But we made it to Jerusalem with no problems. It really was a beautiful drive, mostly.

Once we got to Jerusalem, that is when the problems started. Oy. I won't go into the nasty details, if I could even have remembered them. It took us over 1.5 hours driving around the city, circling, getting lost, to find the zoo. I KNOW WHERE THE ZOO IS!

I HATE Jerusalem.

It was like Hashem kept moving things - no kidding. And at one point I was following where we were on the map (road atlas), and between one point and the next we vanished off the map. Just vanished. Wherever we were didn't match anything on the map at all. I showed it to John, who was driving, in order to have it confirmed. Yup, we had left the map. What good is a map that doesn't match the actual streets? Just wondering.

Anyway, we DID eventually get to the zoo. Great unhappiness that the kids didn't have much chance to play together, and we missed the Sumatran tigers (they'd been put inside because it was getting too cold for them as the sun started to go down). The tigers were a big part of the reason I wanted to go to the zoo. Rats!

We did get to visit the baby elephant, who is still just completely adorable. We also managed some important business - Simcha was able to replace the zoo membership card she had lost, and John finally got one after almost two years we've been zoo members. This was the first time he'd gotten to the zoo.

John also got the phone number of someone at the zoo who in theory has an extra angora goat to give away. GIVE away. !!! It's a very obnoxious male, but we don't care too much about that. That's how we started with them in the States, so many years ago.

And I talked to someone who can give me the names and phone numbers of two people who will probably have lambs for sale.

So all in all it was a success. But the time spent getting lost and found in jerusalem. Not nice. Not nice at all.

The drive home was also not nice, but only because it was so bloody long. Rather than trying to find our way back to kvish 60 in Jerusalem, we took the long way. Which takes us out of our way and really is much too long. Unless you count the 1.5 hours getting lost n Jerusalem, in which case it is definitely shorter than the other route.

We decided we needed a treat, so we stopped for pizza in Netivot. This was also very good. We discovered a pizza place which is also a real restaurant, and very, very nice. Also shopped so we have many of the things we need already, which I would ordinarily have bought on Thursday.

The rest of the night John worked, I was a complete vegetable while listening to John read Eliyahu's bedtime story, and then having a nice long chat with Jessica. Yeaa!

John and I watched some Dr. Who, and that's about it. Now it is after 2am and I am no less exhausted, so good night.

I'm listening to nothing at all.
